Buick Achievers Scholarship Program Offers $4.2 Million
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is awarding 1,100 lucky students with approximately $4.2 million in scholarships. The scholarships are given to those aspiring to become professionals in technology, mathematics, engineering, science, and other fields related to the automotive industry.
Buick sees this as an investment into the young men and women who will be working on the next generation of car technology breakthroughs. And, they also hope that this might entice some of these bright minds into a position at Buick somewhere down the line. But that isn’t the only focus of the program. Of the recipients, 521 are the first in their families to attend an institution past high school. The program doesn’t cover full expenses for every student though. The money is split between 100 students who are awarded $25,000 per year and the other 1,000 who receive $2,000.
The program began in 2011 and has awarded an astounding $16.5 million to over 3,300 students. GM, Buick’s parent company, has also contributed about $42 million to educational programs in the aforementioned fields. Giving so much in such a short span of time shows their devotion to helping the community and furthering the automotive industry.
