Buick Ranks First in J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Survey
A new study by J.D. Power confirms what Matteson, IL Buick fans have known for years: Buick buyers are among the happiest, most satisfied customers in the industry.
The 2017 J.D. Power U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study found that Buick ranks highest among mass market brands when it comes to sales satisfaction. The study found that buyers’ pre-purchase interaction with dealership salespeople leads to high sales satisfaction and sets the stage for a pleasant long-term dealer-buyer relationship.
The study has become a useful tool for both dealers and buyers during its 31-year history. Using a 1,000-point scale, the study measures the sales experience of new-vehicle buyers and “rejecters”–or people who shop at a dealership but purchase elsewhere. The 2017 study compiled responses from over 29,000 buyers who purchased or leased a new car in April or May of 2017.
The study is especially useful because it gives Buick dealers near you some extra insight into customer needs and expectations.
J.D. Power measures buyer satisfaction based on four different criteria: working out the deal, interaction with the salesperson, the delivery process and facility. Rejecter satisfaction is based on five measures: the salesperson, fairness of the price, negotiating experience, facility and inventory variety.
The results of the study revealed that customer satisfaction is usually dependent on three key factors. First, buyers look for an easy negotiation process. Second, buyers expect the contracting, financing, and insurance processes to be smooth and easy to navigate. Third, buyers expect dealers to be able to clearly and effectively explain the features of the vehicle they’re interested in purchasing.

That’s why it was no surprise to us when we heard that Buick achieved top honors in the 2017 J.D. Power U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study.
The brand scored an astonishing 808 out of 1,000 points. MINI, the second-place finisher, ranked at 803 points. GMC came in third with 793 points and Chevrolet placed fourth with 788 points.
“I think the ongoing trend is that the GM brands perform very well, Buick, GMC and Chevrolet–and historically they have,” Chris Sutton, vice president of the automotive retail practice at J.D. Power, said in a statement. “The GM brands do well in those three areas we talked about in the beginning: they do well in negotiations, the finance insurance process and the delivery.”
