Cadillac Contemplates New Engine Offering
When you think Cadillac, you think Escalade. Here at Arnie Bauer in Matteson, we know the iconic SUV has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the Cadillac brand and in 2015 it could get even better. Cadillac is considering the addition of a V-6 turbodiesel and twin-turbo gas V-6 engine options for the luxury SUV.
The Cadillac Escalade was brought on the scene back in 1999-2000. Almost 15 years later the Escalade has grown to become an iconic symbol of luxury and power. Today’s Escalade seats up to eight passengers and comes standard with a 6.2-liter V8 delivering 403 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
This Escalade is one of three SUVs equipped with a version of the new Corvette’s V-8 engine, but Cadillac brand manager David Schiavone recently divulged that there is currently some consideration for adding a V-6 turbodiesel and twin-turbo gas V-6 to the engines available for the luxury SUV.
According to Automotive News, the new engine would mean a new name: the Escalade Vsport. The brand currently offers a 420-horsepower twin-turbo gas V-6 in the CTS Vsport sedan, so the new concept name for the Escalade falls right in line.
It’s unclear exactly how much if any the new engine would ultimately change Escalade’s fuel economy, but it is anticipated to improve it. Diesel powered engines are popular abroad, which could be where Cadillac is looking to attract consumers to the luxury SUV.
The Escalade is built at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington, and has current pricing starting at about $72,000 and up with additional upgrades and extras. This luxury SUV has transcended boundaries and become a staple of mainstream life here in the United States. From celebrities to soccer moms the Escalade has adapted to the needs of many different consumers, and therefore has become a principal for many different markets.
