Cadillac XT5 May Offer Turbo

The all-new 2017 Cadillac XT5

The 2017 Cadillac XT5, the brand-new replacement for the SRT model, is scheduled to debut on showroom floors sometime this April and will feature a V6 engine and eight-speed transmission capable of producing 310 horsepower. While this is the only version of the XT5 that’s currently scheduled for sale in American dealerships, Cadillac and GMC Executive Vice President Johan de Nysschen has confirmed a 2.0-liter turbocharged XT5 for sale in the Chinese market. The XT5’s sales performance both here and in China will likely determine whether or not the U.S. sees a turbocharged XT5, but de Nysschen confirms that it’s possible.

This 2.0-liter turbocharged engine would be capable of producing 258 horsepower with its four-cylinder engine, a lighter alternative to the standard XT5’s 3.6-liter V6. In fact, the benefits of turbocharging the XT5 in America would mean better fuel efficiency, better high-altitude performance a lower cost at the dealership and reduced emissions. The fuel ratings for a turbocharged XT5 have not yet been released, but it will surely improve upon the V6’s current rating of 19/27/22 MPG city/highway/combined for the front-wheel drive model. These size-reducing, performance improving traits are a clear win-win for the people in countries as densely populated as China, but the growing urbanization and increased environmental awareness of Americans could also create a market for a turbocharged XT5.

Other than the engine difference, a turbocharged XT5 would come equipped with all of the luxurious touches and technological features found in its V6 sibling. This crossover seamlessly fuses luxury with functionality to create a vehicle that’s as beautiful to drive as it is to look at. This four-door, five-passenger hatchback with folding seats for additional storage gives the space a high level of versatility. The XT5 also comes loaded with Cadillac’s industry-leading safety features, such as a heads-up display, side blind zone alert, lane keep assist, pedestrian collision mitigation, surround vision, a rear camera mirror and more.
