GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD Proves Toughest in the League
The 2015 GMC Sierra HD pickup is the latest of GMC’s lineup to receive a modern overhaul. With GMC recently focused on their luxury crossovers the new Sierra HD is a reminder GMC hasn’t forgotten their trusty and toughest pickup truck. Although the new Sierra HD may have more of a car like vibe it’s still a Silverado twin underneath that tough GMC exterior.
With a new cab design that makes entering and exiting a lot easier than other rivals like comparable Ford and Ram pickups, the Sierra HD is making even the smallest changes noticeable to drivers.
The redesigned pickup has a similar interior to the Sierra 1500’s. The Sierra HD boasts supportive dual-density foam ergonomic seats making even those long trips comfortable, and an absurd amount of options for drivers to choose from including heated and cooled seats, forward-collision Alert, 8’ diagonal customizable color touch screen, smartphone integration, and the ability to stream Pandora® Internet Radio.
The crew-cab models have larger rear openings and overall more room to stretch out. Extra sound insulation including carpeted wheel wells and triple door seals ensure drivers can focus on the road instead of the roar of the engine. The interior of the new GMC Sierra HD according to GMC’s webpage is “the new standard in truck interiors. Sierra’s interior brings comfort, refinement, and convenience to a whole new level.”
The new pickup looks just as good on the outside as it does on the inside. The stocky lines of the Sierra HD project a masculine style that exudes its workhorse spirit. From the innovative cargo box to a stronger foundation there isn’t an aspect that’s been overlooked.
The Sierra’s LED signature front lighting, chrome grille surround, and projector headlamps are all appreciated, but the optional 20” forged polished aluminum wheels take the HD up another level. The Sierra may be more carlike, but its purpose is clear. With best-in-class ¾-ton maximum payload and a trailering capacity of 14,000 lbs, or a hefty 17,900 lbs capacity with fifth-wheel trailering this truck was made to work.
The GMC Sierra HD houses a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 rated at 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque paired with the sophisticated Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission. This matchup allows a maximum highway range up to 680 miles on one tank which means less stopping, and more enjoying the open road. The 360-hp, 6.0-liter gas V-8 is still offered standard with the HD for those drivers who desire it.
