Is Your Car Ready for the Winter?

2018 GMC Winter

Vehicle maintenance is always important because a car breaking down is a great way to ruin your day. However, just before winter is a critical time to focus on car care. This is because you want your vehicle to be ready to take on the winter weather, and you want to know your vehicle is in good condition, so your vehicle doesn’t breakdown on you in the middle of a snowstorm.

Check out some of the winter car care tips that AAA recommends below:

There are a few key areas to focus in on for winter car maintenance. AAA recommends you get your battery as well as your battery cables and terminals checked to make sure you can start your engine in the cold winter weather.

Tires are another focus for winter because you want a good level of tread to grip the snowy and icy conditions that may occur. If your tires are getting old, you will want to replace them.

Kota Territory News also discusses checking your tire pressure more often. According to Kota News, “As the average temperature drops, so will tire pressures – typically by one pound per square inch (PSI) for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The proper tire pressure levels can be found in the owner’s manual or on a sticker typically located on the driver’s side door jamb or on the door of the glove compartment.” So check your tire pressure when you can!

Oil & Air Filters

There are a lot of other things you can get checked for your car this winter. You can check your oil, air filter, coolant levels, windshield wipers, brakes and more. You can always ask a service professional to help you get your car ready for winter.

Emergency Road Kit

AAA also recommends you carry an emergency road kit in case you run into car trouble this winter. This road kit should include items to help you get through if your car does run into problems this winter. Some ideas for the emergency kit include: a flashlight with extra batteries, jumper cables, traction mats, extra warm clothing, drinking water, a first aid kit, a cell phone and cell phone charger.
