The new Cadillac CTS-V will make you love to drive
Business Insider has been full of love for Cadillac lately, as their writers pinned the CT6 as runner up fortheir Car of the Year awards. Now, Matthew DeBord shares his review of the CTS-V, a sedan he claims will make you fall back in love with driving (and those of us at Arnie Bauer agree!).
For DeBord, the CTS-V captures “a Caddy with the heart of a Corvette,” a formula he says the brand has worked on refining over the last decade. So when he stepped inside his CTS-V, equipped with the same 6.2-liter supercharged widow-maker seen in the Corvette Z06, he was prepared to be amazed—and it started with just the curb appeal.
“Cadillac’s styling for these cars is aggressive,” he writes. “Jutting angles, razored cut-ins, bold scoops and aerodynamics define the attitude.”
The CTS-V delivers that attitude through its modern styling; not only is it unlike most other sedans on the road, but it also pushes the limit of what it means to be a Cadillac.
“Overall, the CTS-V is a successful translation of the Corvette Z06 into a rear-wheel-drive sports sedan,” relates DeBord. “But just because the CTS-V has 10 fewer horses under the hood than the Vette and is versatile enough to satisfy mundane suburban requirements for gathering provisions, that doesn’t mean it lacks angry bones beneath its shimmering chassis.”
The reviewer is referring to the CTS-V’s “mode” feature, a technology that allows drivers to select from among several different driving modes that can be further customized. These changes are reflected in the car’s performance, as well as on the digital display.
“Driving the car is glorious,” praises the Business Insider writer. “The CTS-V is an insane beast when you want it to be, possessed of earth-splitting violence delivered via 0-to-60 time of 3.6 seconds.”
As impressive as the performance is, the CTS-V also encapsulates its passengers in comfort while still maintaining an aggressive edge, as noted by metallic detailing around the headrests and stitched, race-ready Recaro seats.
The CTS-V offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar, a 13-speaker Bose system, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity. Performance-focused drivers will also love the sedan’s performance data recorder.
This isn’t just a normal sedan, and it definitely isn’t just “business as usual” for Cadillac—the CTS-V is a bold statement of American-made luxury and performance.
“The CTS-V bears no resemblance to the Caddys of the Carter and Reagan administrations,” wraps up DeBord. “It has grabbed the sports-sedan concept and pushed it into new territory.”
