The 2017 GMC Yukon XL has your next road trip covered

2017 GMC Yukon Denali | Arnie BauerIn a time where crossovers and compact cars seem to be the norm, the 2017 GMC Yukon XL truly stands out on the streets. Capable of shuttling nine passengers, the new Yukon XL embodies the definition of a full-size SUV.

When reviewers at The News Wheel stepped inside, the vehicle’s soft-touch materials, top-notch tech features, overall comfort and impressive engine power all made for a favorable test drive. The Yukon XL is 20 inches longer than the standard Yukon, and the SLE and SLT trims come standard with a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 foot-pounds of torque. Furthermore, the Denali trim packs an extra punch with a 6.2-liter V8. This engine kicks it up to 420 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque—meaning even this oversized Denali can go from 0 to 60 in just over six seconds. Each engine also features an eight-speed automatic transmission.

For the 5.3-liter V8, fuel efficiency is rated at 16mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway, versus 15mpg and 22mpg, respectively, for the 6.2-liter V8 or the available four-wheel drive system. Drivers opting for the four-wheel drive 6.2-liter V8 can expect 14mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway. Each Yukon XL also holds 31 gallons.

New for 2017, the SLT and Denali trim levels come with heated and ventilated 12-way power front bucket seats and heated bucket seats in the second row. Additionally, buyers can add-on the Enhanced Driver Alert package that features low-speed automatic braking. Parents will also rejoice – the new GM’s Teen Driver safety system is now standard on the Yukon XL.

“The 2017 GMC Yukon XL features a bold and rugged design that won’t be mistaken for any other vehicle,” writes The News Wheel. The Yukon XL makes it difficult to blend in, due to its oversized grille, stylized tail lights and available premium features, such as chrome bodyside molding and 22-inch chrome wheels.

Inside, the Yukon XL really delivers on what it means to be a big SUV in a small car world. The full-size SUV uses its spacious cabin to easily seat and entertain nine passengers with its available onboard 4G Wi-Fi, Apple Carplay, Android Auto and HD 8-inch IntelliLink infotainment system.

“Another notable part of the interior is how quiet it is,” praises The News Wheel. “Each Yukon XL was built using triple sealed doors, an acoustic laminated windshield and valved exhaust system, which all work together to make this GMC one of the most comfortable SUVs on the market.”

As with all of GMC’s vehicles, safety is just as important as aesthetics and performance. The Yukon XL comes standard with parking assist, a rear vision camera, StabiliTrak technology and the innovative Teen Driver system – a built-in system that encourages safe driving by automatically activating certain safety features and providing a report card comprised of  insightful and personalized feedback for new drivers.
