The Big, the Bold and the Beautiful: The 2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum
With the rise of compact cars and smart vehicles, news concerning oversized SUVs is fewer and farther between. Thankfully, Cadillac is filling the void in our hearts for those luxurious and powerful beasts with their most recent luxury SUV installment: the 2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum.
This isn’t a car that goes unnoticed on the streets, and with a base price hitting between $80-$90k, subtlety is a feature happily sacrificed for the privilege of head-turning, jaw-dropping intensity. After all, that’s exactly what the 2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum delivers (and what its drivers want): a whopping amount of luxurious style underpinned by top-notch performance and power. Although the SUV clocks in over 5,500 pounds, its 6.2-liter V8 can pump out 420 horsepower delivered at a decent gas mileage (all things considered, of course) of 15 in the city and 21 on the highway.
This platinum-trimmed Escalade is all about traditional yet stylish panache. The Platinum sits on 22” painted wheels with chrome inserts (larger than the standard’s 20” wheels) and features a one-of-a-kind Galvano chrome grille. Other notable features include light-blade LED taillamps, Total Internal Reflectance LED high-beams up front, an invisible rear wiper and an optional power-retractable running board.
Inside, the 2016 Cadillac Escalade Platinum continues to impress. The large accommodating doors open to reveal semi-aniline leather covered seats accompanied by a supple microsuede and two different wood tones as accents. Cadillac’s user-friendly and highly acclaimed CUE system sits up front on a high-tech dash that even includes tri-zone automatic climate control. In between the seats, drivers will find a center console with a power outlet and multiple USB ports for charging on-the-go plus a cooled compartment that can store six 20-ounce bottles at a cool 40 degrees. The Escalade’s three rows of seating provide plenty of room for passengers or ample room for cargo, considering the third row’s stowing capability. It’s easy to keep passengers entertained since the 2016 Escalade has an overhead monitor and dual screens mounted in each of the front head restraints, a feature capable of playing a different show on each of the individual screens.
The power under the hood and the luxury inside the SUV do not keep the new Escalade from underperforming. Drivers report that the ride is smooth, comfortable and solid, even when opting into Sport Mode for bouts of highway driving. Large disc brakes allow drivers to control the Escalade with safe precision, and the handling is as smooth as you would expect from a Cadillac.
