The Cadillac Escalade Platinum Remains a Monster of an SUV
Here at Arnie Bauer, we were pretty excited when the 2015 Cadillac Escalade Platinum started arriving at dealerships. This big boy has always been viewed as a status symbol and enjoyed by a number of high-profile individuals. The Escalade is anything but inconspicuous, and you drive an Escalade to be seen, not to blend into the scenery.
The name Escalade is a reference to a tactic of siege warfare, when warriors would scale defensive walls during an attack. This big, bold SUV certainly looks as if it could climb over a few walls, but storming castles is hardly the intention. The Escalade was launched over 15 years ago with the first model making its debut with the 1999 model year as a reaction to Ford’s Lincoln Navigator, as well as other similar models coming out of Germany and Japan.
The fourth generation Escalade is even bigger than its massive predecessors with a 1.5 inch increase in width, a 1.4 increase in length, and an extra 100 pounds. This certainly bucks current trends that have seen big sports utility vehicles shrink and crossover in an effort to gain better fuel economy, but the Escalade has never been about fiscal prudence. It’s a status symbol through and through and if saving pennies at the pump is an issue for you, chances are you wouldn’t want an Escalade in the first place.
But having said that, there have been improvements to fuel efficiency with the Platinum -now capable of achieving 14 miles per gallon on city streets and 21 mpg on the highway. The Escalade’s 6.2 liter V8 features a six-speed automatic transmission that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, accomplished thanks to direct fuel injection. Zero to 60 in just a hair over six seconds is pretty impressive with a vehicle of this magnitude, and a newly designed logo and LED lighting on the door handles add a cool touch as well.
